1st of all: Nothing about Jamie is funny in the least. I found some of the first-graders recycled dad jokes to be more funny than anything Jamie had. It got pretty pathetic after a while.
2nd: I'm not sure if James Patterson has any idea what modern-day bullying looks like. The whole wedgie/swirly thing is so damn stereotypical middle-school bullying, but as a middle schooler, I have never seen/experienced
This book was absolute garbage. I am still amazed at how many 5-star reviews this book has.1st of all: Nothing about Jamie is funny in the least. I found some of the first-graders recycled dad jokes to be more funny than anything Jamie had. It got pretty pathetic after a while.
2nd: I'm not sure if James Patterson has any idea what modern-day bullying looks like. The whole wedgie/swirly thing is so damn stereotypical middle-school bullying, but as a middle schooler, I have never seen/experienced anything like Patterson describes. Maybe it was like this 20-30 years ago, but nowadays... no, no, no.
3rd: Middle school romance? Please. Don't even get me started on this bullcrap. Honestly, people going to each other's houses, and sending flirty back-and-forth DM's on Instagram is about as romantic as you get in middle school. All of this "bench near the beach at midnight, sharing feelings, and kissing" is just his wistful thinking.
SUCKED.
EDIT: I think that part of what triggered me so much about this book, is that it also has this underlying theme: "If you're famous, it's ok to be a total douche to your friends, and then apologize and expect your fame and the benefits that come with it to fix everything."
"Apologies don't mean a thing, if you don't ever fix it." - NF
"Actions speak louder than words do, it's pretty quiet, isn't it?" - NF
"Mistakes can make you grow, that doesn't mean your friends." - NF
James Patterson is a great author to read. These books by him I read are great. I can't wait to read the next book in his series. I like about this book that Jamie is faced with many problems, but he somehow overcomes them just by being himself. I would recommend this book to everyone of all age because this is very entertaining.

I thought that this book was very funny. The illustrations are very well drawn and made the book more interesting. I would recommend this to my friends in my class. I have ordered more books from this series. My favourite part was when the school bully called Stevie Kosgrov meets a new bully called Lars Johannsen from Minnesota who started the school.
What the bully Stevie Kosgrov has done to other people , Lars does the same things to Stevie and so makes Stevie realise what he has done in the past and feels sorry for the people that he has bullied and becomes a nicer person.
...moreThe character I like most in this book is Jamie, who is also the main character, because even though he has had many tragedies in his life, such as losing his ability to walk and his family, he still has a TON of humor in him that he shares with the world. This book makes me think about how bullying is a real problem that needs to be taken care of. I think this because in I Funny TV, Jamie is picked on by 2 kids because he has disabilities. This kind of bullying happens in real life and needs to stop. When I read this book I feel like there are many people in the world who have worked through major problems in their lives and done something great. A part of this book that I dislike is when Jamie messes up in the practice session of this show. I don't like this part because it makes it seem like Jamie lost a lot of his talent. A question I have about this book is why did Jamie move in with his aunt and uncle instead of his other uncle who owns a diner. I ask this because it seems like Jamie has a better relationship with his other uncle. If I were Jamie when he was being asked to do the show at first, I would've agreed right away because I would not want to lose the 1 million dollars I'd already spent. This was an ok book and I would recommend it to someone who is not that into reading and has lots of time on their hands.
This is an overall good book that I would recommend to anyone who likes to read comedy books. I Funny TV has many funny and many sad moments, but also some boring moments that made it lose a star.

Readers get to join Jamie through the experience, which is filled with the usual amount of humor. It is not surprising since Jamie is the standup coming that has to sit down ... at least, that is how he refers to himself because he is in a wheelchair after having survived a tragic accident that took the lives of his parents and younger sister. That has not kept him from finding the lighter aspects of his life, and he continues to do that in this book. Nothing that happens on the set of his show ends up causing him to give up. A lot of that is due to his friends and family, but it really comes to the fact that he is a funny guy.
As with the other Middle School stories, bullying consistently is represented, and the books provide great advice how not to let bullies overwhelm you. It is a nice message, and it is embedded in all the books in a way that it doesn't come across cheesy or preachy. The book is definitely a fun read, but it really probably requires the reader to read that earlier I Funny books, but that is not a problem since they are all enjoyable.
...moreI really liked this book. The characters were realistic and the story was easy to follow. I am giving this book four stars because the only thing that I would have changed is adding more detail to the setting the characters were in.
...moreThis is a hilarious story. It is great for both younger and older people. I liked this book, and you will too.
When James Patterson wrote I Funny TV A Middle School Story I think he stepped out of his writing box because he had to imagine himself as a kid in this position. This book is told in the vision of a disabled teenage boy who won a comedy contest in New York making his way through life with bullies, new opportunities, and just teenage problems. The main conflict in the story is when he gets selected for a tv show about himself, and he goes through this stage of doubt and stress to where they think they should hire new people to play in his tv show. This requires Jamie to get the help of celebrities, friends, and family to just be himself. Based on the plot James Patterson wants to entertain the reader in this novel. The book mostly takes a comedic take on it, but it can get very real in the way his life goes on with bullies, school, and just a home life.
From my view on the book the theme was pretty easy to spot. I think the theme is just be yourself. At the beginning of the book Jamie loves his life and the way he can get out of anything with comedy, but towards the end of the book the fame is kind of shaping him into something that he is not. A quote explains this by saying: "Or have you completely forgotten your own lousy idea for an even lousier short film?" (223). This quote happens when Jamie has to record late, and his ride is late. He forgets to go to his friends who were going to shoot a short film for school. At that moment Jamie knew that he did something very wrong, and almost lost a big part of his life.
The style that James Patterson used was a narrative. The readers follow the life of a teenage boy throughout the whole story going through the life of a regular teenage boy. A great quote to explain that this book is a narrative is when Jamie says: " So when he threatens to give me a wedgie, I say, you're really good at giving wedgies, Stevie. Do you practice yanking up your own underwear at home? Is that why you always walk so weirdly?" (12). This quote shows how James Patterson put a comedic look to a regular person's life. I think that his style is very effective. A quote that also explains that he is just a person is: "The makeup lady powder-puffs my face to blot away the flop sweat that just drizzled out of my hair." (167). This quote again shows how James Patterson really related to a real person instead of making Jamie Grimm a perfect human. James Patterson really uses a kind of younger age comedy, but when you find a funny joke you just can't wait to turn the page to find another one. I feel like the reader is obligated to turn the page to find out what funny line is on the next page.
I liked I Funny TV A Middle School Story. I feel like on some parts the characters can be relatable, and it can be a book to just pick up and just get a good laugh. I was very skeptical about the humor. I thought the humor would be very dry and boring, but some jokes were very funny and entertaining to read. This book really made me think that not all comedy based books are going to be boring or just have dry comedy. If I could change the book there would be a couple of things. First, I feel like a couple times the book got so depressing for a little bit of time. That some of the jokes that they put in the book weren't that funny. Another thing is that they had some side characters, but some didn't go into that much detail. Finally, some characters after one scene with them in it, we didn't even hear from them after that. I feel that if you're in the story you have to stay in the story for the whole book. That is what I thought of I Funny TV A Middle School Story. One of the funniest books I have ever read.

What i noticed about the illustrations are that what they say in the story they put pictures of it. I like that because i can really see the story in my head. An example is Jamie was trying to act cool and he tried to do a wheelie but he fell right on his butt. I could see that in my head because they showed three pictures of it happening. It was also really funny.
The book is differnt then all the others books that James Patterson wrote because all of his other books Jamie would be going to a competition but in this book they were talkng about a TV show. In his last book (book three) Uncle Frankies diner got all messed up my a hurricane. In his first book jamie thought he was not ready for the competition.
...moreI really enjoyed this book because it had cool stuff coming up and I wanted to keep reading to see what will happen next. This book also had short paragraphs winch I like. I also liked this book of how it had new characters coming up and new characters means new events. I loved how this book had really descriptive wording, made me feel like I was in the book.

James Patterson is the world's bestselling author and most trusted storyteller. He has created more enduring fictional characters than any other novelist writing today, with his Alex Cross, Michael Bennett, Women's Murder Club, Private, NYPD Red, Daniel X, Maximum Ride, and Middle School series. He has sold over 380 million books worldwide and currently holds the Guinness World Record for the most #1 New York Times bestsellers. In addition to writing the thriller novels for which he is best known, among them The President Is Missing with President Bill Clinton, Patterson also writes fiction for young readers of all ages, including the Max Einstein series, produced in partnership with the Albert Einstein Estate. He is also the first author to have #1 new titles simultaneously on the New York Times adult and children's bestseller lists.
The son of an insurance salesman and a schoolteacher, Patterson grew up in Newburgh, New York, and began casually writing at the age of nineteen. In 1969, he graduated from Manhattan College. He was given a full-ride scholarship to Vanderbilt University's graduate program in English. He left Vanderbilt before getting his PhD due to complications involving the Vietnam War.
Instead, he moved to New York to become a junior copywriter for the advertising agency J. Walter Thompson, eventually becoming CEO of its North American company.
In 1976, while still working for J. Walter Thompson, Patterson published his first novel, The Thomas Berryman Number, with Little, Brown and Company. After being turned down by thirty-one publishers, it won the Edgar Award for Best First Novel. Patterson's 1993 novel, Along Came a Spider, his first book to feature Alex Cross, was also his first New York Times bestseller in fiction.
In 2001, Morgan Freeman starred as Alex Cross in a film adaptation of Along Came a Spider, and Tyler Perry also played the character in the 2012 film Alex Cross. A film adaptation of Patterson's middle-grade novel Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life was released in theaters in October 2016.
James Patterson has donated more than one million books to students, focusing on some of the most under-resourced schools and youth programs in the country. To date, he has donated $7.25 million to school and classroom libraries throughout the United States, and $2.1 million to independent bookstores and employees.
Patterson has recently donated over $35 million to his and his wife's alma maters—the University of Wisconsin, Vanderbilt University, and Manhattan College—and he has established over four hundred Teacher and Writer Education Scholarships at twenty-one colleges and universities throughout the country. Patterson has also donated more than one million books to U.S. soldiers at home and overseas.
In May 2015, Patterson launched a children's book imprint at Little, Brown—JIMMY Patterson—that is unwaveringly focused on one goal: turning kids into lifelong readers. This imprint also provides resources, strategies, and programs to serve teachers, parents, librarians, and booksellers. Patterson invests proceeds from the sales of JIMMY Patterson Books in pro-reading initiatives.
Patterson also founded ReadKiddoRead.com, a website designed to help parents, teachers, and librarians ignite a new generation's excitement for reading. Awarded the National Book Foundation's Innovations in Reading Prize and the American Library Association's Great Websites for Kids, the site features thoughtful book reviews from a variety of genres and age ranges, a large and lively Facebook community, and contributions from other authors.
Patterson's awards for adult and children's literature include the Edgar Award, the International
