Will Dragon Ball Super Continue After Tournament of Power
It's been a while since we've seen Dragon Ball Super because the anime has been on a hiatus that has lasted four years already. Of course, while the anime may have taken an indefinite break, what we all know is that the storyline is far from over because the Dragon Ball Super journey continued on the big screen and in the manga, where Goku and Vegeta have gone through some of the toughest fights of their lives. So, what comes after Dragon Ball Super?
Dragon Ball Super continued its storyline with the Dragon Ball Super: Broly and the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movies, which all happen directly after each other. Meanwhile, the manga storyline continues after Super Hero as we follow the Galactic Prisoner Saga and the Granolah the Survivor Saga.
Even though the Dragon Ball Super anime has been on hiatus, the thing is that Dragon Ball fans are able to enjoy the storyline through the manga, which has had a lot of revelations already. Of course, there are also Super Dragon Ball Heroes, which is a non-canon series. So, with that said, there are a lot of other Dragon Ball storylines that come after Super, and that's what we are here to talk about.
Dragon Ball Super: Broly
After we saw the explosive conclusion of the Dragon Ball Super anime's Universal Survival Saga, which followed the Tournament of Power, many people thought that the battle against Jiren was already the peak of Dragon Ball. That was because Goku was able to reach his Perfected Ultra Instinct state and was able to give Jiren the toughest fight of his life. Of course, the saga concluded with Android 17 winning the Tournament of Power and restoring all of the universes back to existence.
Then again, we all know that Goku and Vegeta still continued to train hard because of the fact that they were well aware of the possibility of more threats suddenly appearing out of nowhere. That is when Frieza's henchmen discovered Broly and his father, who were both stranded on a strange planet. This happened in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie that was released in 2018.
Broly was born as a Saiyan with immense power that threatened King Vegeta himself. That was why he was sent far away from Planet Vegeta, where he was followed by his father, Paragus, as they all got stranded on the island. Nevertheless, Broly trained to become strong as it was clear that his raw potential surpassed any other Saiyan in history.
Frieza used Broly to his advantage by bringing him to Earth to battle Goku and Vegeta so that he could acquire the Dragon Balls. Broly, of course, was strong enough to give the Saiyan protagonists a good battle but was overwhelmed by their Super Saiyan Blue transformation. But once the large Saiyan unlocked his own Super Saiyan state, he became so strong that Goku and Vegeta needed to fuse into Gogeta to defeat him and even recruit him as a friend.
This movie actually introduced two characters to the Dragon Ball canon. We are talking about both Broly and Gogeta, who we only saw in non-canon appearances in previous Dragon Ball projects.
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero
A few months after Dragon Ball Super: Broly, both Goku, and Vegeta went to Whis's planet to train, as Broly was there to observe how to properly fight while restraining themselves. But trouble started brewing on Earth while Goku and Vegeta were away as the Red Ribbon Army started building androids that could threaten the safety of the good guys left on the planet. This all happened in the recently released Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie.
Piccolo discovered this threat, as he even learned about Cell Max, who was set to become even more powerful than the original Cell. As such, he worked together with the three-year-old Pan to force Gohan's fighting spirit out so that they could work together to defeat this threat.
Initially, the androids named Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 proved to be too much for both Gohan and Piccolo. But when Gohan was able to tap into his Potential Unleashed form and Piccolo unlocked an entirely new and powerful form called Orange Piccolo, they began to dominate the androids, as it was clear that the Red Ribbon Army was going to go down in defeat. Nevertheless, Cell Max was unleashed as this destructive and unstable monster was too much for the heroes to defeat.
Orange Piccolo fought the monster hard enough that Gohan was able to tap into the deepest crevices of his potential to unlock a new form called Gohan Beast, which is a form that could potentially rival Goku's Ultra Instinct. Gohan made quick work of Cell Max using a Special Beam Cannon, as Piccolo and the boy he raised were able to save the day without having to rely on Goku and Vegeta, who might not have beaten Cell Max using their Super Saiyan Blue transformations.
Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga
The Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga is the Dragon Ball manga arc that immediately follows the events of the Tournament of Power. This time, Goku and his friends have to work together with the Galactic Patrol to fight and defeat an evil wizard called Moro, who has enough power to become a universal threat.
Moro is a wizard of immense power and is capable of absorbing power from planets. He was defeated by the Grand Supreme Kai and the South Supreme Kai 10 million years before the events of Dragon Ball. He was then imprisoned by the Galactic Patrol, but they couldn't find a way to execute him because of his incredible power. Of course, during the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, Moro found a way to escape and regain the powers he once lost.
This is the Dragon Ball Super arc where Goku and Vegeta become even more powerful than they were in the past. In Goku's case, he begins to learn how to properly harness Ultra Instinct and master it to the point where he can use his Mastered Ultra Instinct form without the need to be pushed to the edge of his limits. On the other hand, Vegeta learns new techniques and discovers how to make his Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form more powerful.
Granolah the Survivor Saga
The Granolah the Survivor Saga follows the story of Granolah, who harbors a deep hatred for the Saiyans due to the fact that he was the sole survivor of a planet that was devastated by the Saiyans a long time ago. However, it was ultimately Frieza who he hated the most because the Saiyans only did what Frieza told them to do. As such, the Heeters took advantage of Granolah, who became a strong bounty hunter that wanted to be strong enough to defeat Frieza one day.
Of course, the Saiyans got involved with this mess again as the Heeters manipulated Granolah into fighting them. Granolah eventually became so strong that he was able to become the strongest mortal in Universe 7 when he made a wish using the Cerelean Dragon Balls. And this allowed him to fight both Goku and Vegeta on par, even though Goku had Ultra Instinct and Vegeta had his newly unlocked Ultra Ego.
But the main enemies of this arc are the Heeters, who used to work for Frieza as some of his henchmen. Gas, one of the Heeters, actually became the biggest threat to the universe when he became the most powerful Universe 7 mortal by virtue of a wish using the Dragon Balls. And this is where the storyline became interesting not only because Goku and Vegeta were forced to push themselves to their very limits in their most powerful forms but also because a more powerful being ended up changing the course of the entire arc.
What's Next For Dragon Ball?
After the big surprise at the end of the Granolah the Survivor Saga, both Goku and Vegeta came out in one piece because they were spared by their enemy. But this allowed both of them to realize that they still needed to work extremely hard in the midst of an even larger threat that had emerged from beyond their universe.
Of course, we all know that the goal for Goku is to reach the level of the Angels in the sense that he could access Ultra Instinct without transforming, as it should be part of his base power. And this could be what's next for Goku, as he and Vegeta still need to train harder to unlock new powers and to bridge the gap between them and their new (old) enemy.
