Why are there so few rear belch mowers? It would seem to me they would be superior to side discharge but 90% of mowers are side discharge. What would be the disadvantages that I'm not thinking of?

Thanks

Only demoed a couple here. Rear discharge on some models can discharge onky the width betwixt the rear tires (windrows) while some discharge wider. Also the grass clippings on a rear discharge are longer as they come up out of the mower deck quicker. DanofWI

I would like to add to this that guy was at local small engine/mower/chain saw store and he had cut open the rear of his ztr deck and then blocked the side outlet off. He said it mowed like crazy until dry grass piled up on bulldoze motors and lit it up. At present I practise not know if that was the true reason it started on fire considering I wouldn't remember that oil would get that hot. deereman05

Thanks for the respond. I was wondering about that. I should probably notice fourth dimension to demo a couple as well. Only seems that if you mow up and come correct back with a zero plough you lot don't want to belch clippings on uncut grass. Also thought information technology might be a lot cleaner mowing with a rear belch. Correct now with our side discharge we take to proceed the deflector upwards to avoid windrowing. When the wind is blowing it tin can be a very muddy job. Also, thought information technology might be less apt to throw rocks and debri with the rear belch. jtpfarm

I had a couple guys tell me that the rear discharge decks wont pick upwards grass that is pushed down by the front end wheels. I would imagine because the whole rear of the deck existence open looses the suction. 69roadrunner

Unless you like mowing curt, very few rear discharge mowers will do equally nice a job as a side discharge. Mark (EC,IN)

I've got both. A Country Clipper 60" and a Woods 72" (3 point mounted ).

At that place is more windrowing in alpine grass with the rear belch. It'southward kind of like it throws information technology confronting the rear guess bicycle tire.

It's only noticeable in existent alpine grass (like over the septic) only it seems that blowing the grass back and forth with the side discharge spreads it better.

I have been around very few of the rear discharge mowers. The ane I have been around is a 3 signal finish mower of some sort. I don't think it was a Forest only can't remember for sure. It cut the grass simply fine simply did a horrible task of spreading out the clippings. The yard looks absolutely horrible when he is washed. I would similar to see a Grasshopper of other similar rear discharge units to see if they have the aforementioned problem. I wouldn't even consider one unless I was able to thoroughly demo ane. The idea is slap-up considering information technology makes for much cleaner mowing and you are ever throwing the clippings onto the cut grass instead of blowing it into standing grass half the time. Unfortunately I don't think there is enough velocity with the rear discharge to evenly distribute the clippings. pjjw

I bought a hustler rear discharge last year. The blade on the one side turns reverse to the other ii on a sixty inch deck. Information technology will out cut a 5 foot bush hog on a 50 horsepower tractor in tall 6 inch plus grass. Gas is saved by never throwing clippings twice. I like it. packerfan

I owned a rear belch finishing mower for awhile. I thought information technology would be perfect for going around buildings and flower beds, etc. I never did like the task it did. It would exit the clippings in streaks and the deck was always edifice upwardly underneath. If the grass got away from you lot and got too alpine, information technology would windrow and streak badly. Information technology was not some inexpensive box store mower either. I sold it and my backyard tractor and went to a good zero turn mower. Mike SE IL

I have no experience but talked with a friend who did.  They had a Christmas tree farm for a while and used a rear discharge to keep from throwing grass in to the trees.  He said a rear discharge did a good job if y'all stayed current with your mowing.  But if the grass got ahead of you it did a poor job.

Our local cemetery uses a rear belch so it can get down the rows. He mows often because as previous people have said, it does windrow if grass is too alpine. He too mentioned the radiator plugging consequence, only it's easy to continue an eye on. J-BRATTO

I've got a 329 mid mount grasshopper with rear belch deck. I'd never go back to a side discharge. It'southward then much cleaner to mow with. Cleaner for the guy mowing and no clippings all over places u don't want them. The plugging the radiator is but guys dreaming of things to complain about so they don't have to buy one. Grasshoppers midmounts have a 4th blade in the belch area to help mulch and eliminate windrowing. Buster fifty

We demoed a rear discharge Grasshopper and loved it. It is congenital dissimilar than my rear discharge One thousand&W triple deck (they really windrow) and so it doesn't windrow.
